The goal for the “Urban traces” workshop is to have students experiment with ways to represent and remix physical traces of human activity they discover in the built (urban) environment.

I presented “find, record, remix” [pdf] as a conceptual frame for the project, and I introduced methods of observing physical traces [pdf] based on a chapter in Inquiries for Design by John Zeisel.

The goal of the “Type and image” workshop is for students to explore the formal and conceptual connections between image and text by using photocopies of found images and text to make an accordion-fold book.

I presented “Type and image remix” [pdf] to introduce the project. It also includes some examples of student work.
